Over the years Chay had been in many different countries during Christmas.
She had been in places where celebrating was outlawed and place where the entire country was up in lights. She had been in places where nobody knew who Tchaikovsky was, and places where she felt like killing everyone who played nutcracker music. She had lived through the highly commercial celebrations and the candlelit church services.
But every year, without a doubt, her family got together, dimmed the lights and curled up – sometimes on a nice, comfortable couch and sometimes on the dirt floor. And every year they had their small, intimate celebrations.
And it was those memories that stayed with her throughout life.
